The 10 kilometer (6.2 miles) walk (rating = 1, easy) includes historical sites such as The Strand, University of Texas-Medical Branch-Old Red, Ashton Villa, Moody Mansion, Galvez and Tremont Hotels, cruise ship viewing and the Galveston Seawall. SPECIAL PROGRAM: A to Z = "G" |
SANCTIONED: By the American Volkssport Association (AVA), a member of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV). Participants in this event may receive credit toward IVV awards.
LOCATION: Starbucks Coffee Company, 102 Kempner St [22nd St], Galveston, TX, 77550-1523, 409-621-2577. Mapquest
DIRECTIONS: From Houston take I-45 South. I-45 becomes Broadway ST. Turn left onto Rosenberg/25th ST. Turn right on Harborside DR. Turn right on Kempner [22nd] St. Starbucks is at the corner of Kempner/22nd ST and Harborside DR.
START/FINISH: Daily, Dawn to Dusk. Starbucks is open 5:30am - 9:30pm Sunday-Thursday and 5:30am-11:00pm on Saturdays. Closed Christmas Day.
CREDIT: One IVV event credit per the first six months of the year (before July 01) and a second credit for the last six months (after June 30). There are no limits to the distance credits you can earn, but $3.00 must be paid each time the course is walked for credit except that a trail may be walked twice on the same day for one fee.
AWARD: IVV Credit only.
REFRESHMENTS: Water and restrooms are available at the Start/Finish. Water should be carried with you.
REGISTRATION/FEES: There is no pre-registration. The
start/finish functions will be self-service, on the honor system. The fees
are: Award & IVV credit: $7.00; IVV credit only: $3.00;
Non-IVV participant: free.
No refunds for inclement weather. All participants must carry a start card and return it when finished. IVV record books ($5) are available for purchase at the Start/Finish box or may be obtained from the event point of contact.
ELIGIBILITY: These events are open to the public and all ages are welcome. Family participation is encouraged but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times. Pets are NOT allowed inside many establishments.
