AREA DESCRIPTION: Columbus, the seat of Colorado County, was settled in 1823 by members of Stephen F. Austin's original colony. The community bills itself as "The City of Live Oaks" and is known for its Texian-era heritage, natural beauty and lovingly restored historic buildings. A historical marker downtown identifies an old oak under which the first court of the Third Judicial District of the Republic of Texas convened in 1837.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION: After registering at the motel, you MUST drive to the Nesbett Library, 529 Washington St., Columbus TX 78934-2326, to begin the walk Directions to the Library are in the walk instructions in the Walk box. Parking is available at the front of the Library or in the school parking lot on the Bowie Street side of the parking lot. Walk will be through historic Columbus along the Colorado River and city park. Walk during daylight hours only.

SANCTIONED: By the American Volkssport Association (AVA), a member of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV). Participants in this event may receive credit toward IVV awards.
LOCATION: Americas Best Value Inn, 2436 TX Highway 71 S, Columbus TX 78934-9200 (south corner of I-10 and TX- 71S) (Formerly known as the Country Hearth Inn) Mapquest
DIRECTIONS: From San Antonio: Take I-10 East to Exit 696 and turn right on TX-71 to the hotel
From Houston: Take I-10 West to exit 696 and turn left on TX-71 to the hotel.
START/FINISH TIMES: 6:00 am to 3 hours before dusk!
CREDIT: Each walk can be done as many times as you like for event and kilometer credits. $3.00 must be paid for each event credit, one per day. $3.00 must be paid each time the course is walked for distance credit except that a trail may be walked twice on the same day for one fee. A single $3.00 can be paid on a daily basis for a single event and distance credit.
AWARD: IVV Credit only
REFRESHMENTS: Restrooms and water are available at the Start/Finish. Food and beverages are available for purchase at various businesses along the route. Water should be carried with you.
REGISTRATION/FEE: There is no pre-registration. The Start/Finish functions will be self-service, on the honor system. The walk fees is $3.00 (includes IVV credit). Non-credit children under 12 are free. All participants must carry a completed Start Card and return it when finished.
ELIGIBILITY: These events are open to the public and all ages are welcome. Family
participation is encouraged but children under 12 must be accompanied by an
adult. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times. Pets are not allowed inside many establishments.
