Stroll through Fernland Historical Park, the streets of Montgomery, and take a peek into history at the N. H. Davis Museum. Montgomery, TX, was founded in July 1837 and named after Montgomery County, Alabama, which was named after Lemuel P. Montgomery, who was killed in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend (1814). It became the first county seat of Montgomery County, Texas. Enjoy the holiday decorated houses.
ELIGIBILITY/TYPE OF EVENT: Non-competitive, non-timed. Walk, jog or run at your own pace. It is open to all and families are encouraged to participate. Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone participating MUST register and carry a Start Card and turn it in at the FINISH. This event normally will be held regardless of weather conditions.
STARTING POINT: Arnold-Simonton House, Fernland Historical Park and Museum; 770 Clepper Dr., Montgomery, TX 77356,
DIRECTIONS: From Houston, go north on I-45. Exit at TX 105 (Exit #87A). Continue straight on service road to TX 105 West. Left under I-45. Proceed to Montgomery, about 15 miles. Right onto CB Stewart Drive, then left at first turn onto Clepper Dr., just opposite the restaurant entrance. Fernland Park is on your right about 1000 ft from CB Stewart Dr.
START and FINISH TIMES: Start from 09:00 AM to 11:00 noon; finish by 2:00 PM.
DISTANCE: 10km/5km (6.2mi/3.1mi) The route may be walked twice on the same Start Card for 20 km distance credit.
AWARD: IVV credit event.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Trail
is rated 1A, along city streets and paths. Wheel chairs or strollers
may have some difficulty. Leashed pets are welcome. Pets are not
allowed in businesses or the museum.
REFRESHMENTS: Water will be available at the Start/Finish and businesses along the route.
REGISTRATION & FEES: No pre-registration. $4.00 fee per participant. (IVV credit included in the $4.00). IVV record books will be
available for $6.00. Everyone is welcome. Children under 12 must be
accompanied by an adult. Event takes place rain or shine. No refunds for failure to
participate.
