Visitors [since 04/02/2017]
Join us in Washington County for a visit to an important town in early Texas history. Independence was founded after the Texas Revolution on land that was originally part of Stephen F. Austin's colony. It prospered and at one time was said to be the wealthiest community in Texas. Baylor University began operations here in 1846 with 24 students. Expect to see many historical markers in and around the town. Our start point, Independence Baptist Church, dates back to 1839.
